CBN presents inputs to 500 Bayelsa rice farmers

About 500 rice farmers in Bayelsa have been presented farm inputs under the first phase of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Anchor Borrowers’ Programme.

The Chairman of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Mr Ezekiel Ogbinko, in bayelsa announced in Yenagoa, on Friday at the second phase of the programme for the 2018 farming season

Ezekiel ogbinko stated that a few items distributed included 1, 200 bags of fertiliser of various types, 400 cans of herbicides and sprayer.

Speaking, he explained that the aim of the programme to distribute farm inputs was to promote large production through a loan procedure

“Right now in the state, we have over 4,000 farmers working on the 20,000 hectares of land cleared for the dry season rice faming.

“The farm sites are at Ondewari and Okpotuwari communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area,” he said.

The chairman caution the farmers against diversion of the items and the Federal government programme was aimed at achieving food security.
