Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Bagudu says the state will partner farmers and millers under the Federal Government’s Anchor Borrowers’ Programme to sell local rice below N10,000 per bag.
The governor who stated this in Birnin Kebbi, Sunday lauded President Muhammadu Buhari over his rice policy and advocated more investments by both the public and private sectors.
He expressed that much results had been recorded through the mobilisation of 70,000 farmers and N11 billion expended on the pilot scheme in the state.
He further said that apart from two major rice-milling factories, Labana and Walcot, there were numerous small and medium scale millers being inaugurated in the state.
The governor who is the Chairman Presidential Task Force Committee on Rice and Wheat Production revealed that paddy demanded by the two major rice milling factories, Labana and Walcot totaled N55 billion.
Noting that the Dangote Group had concluded plans to set up a rice milling plant in the state, Bagudu stated that the collaboration the state had with Lagos on Lake Rice had tackled lack of access to markets for rice farmers.
He added that the state aimed at leading the pack in Agricultural transformation through the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme.
